    • Hi Chris,

Book two is in the “final” rewrite, before I get it to the content editor at the end of the summer. Then, I’ll need to make fixes and get it to the line editor. A lot of work remains, but I am working diligently toward getting the second book finished this year.

In the meantime, I will soon release a prelude introducing new characters that you will meet in the second book.

      Thanks for reading!
      David Ekrut

      • oh man this is soooo not fair!! when you got me hooked on this book series i didnt realize you were gonna make me “thumpin” wait for the next book 😉 !!! Thanks for one of the best reads i’ve had in a long while … eagerly awaiting the next installment !! 🙂

      • Thank you! Sorry to make you wait, but I hope to get more story to you soon! I am working diligently to get volume II out. In the next few weeks, I’ll be posting a few chapters from an interlude that I wrote. Hopefully, this will hold you over. 🙂

  1. Hey david, It is october, I would think book two is almost done? Are you having some trouble finishing it? I thought you did a nice job woth book one. I hope you are not diving up on self publishing. Any insight on publication and audio release would be great!

    • Hi Ockam’s Barber,

Not giving up at all! I’ve had quite a bit of success with volume one, and I’m working diligently on the second book. Though I have finished the first draft of book 2, it is still in the editing/rewriting phase. And, I still hope to get Mastering the Elements out next year.

I’ve also written an interlude to introduce some new characters, who will appear in the second volume. This novel is with my editor now, and I hope to release it by December. I will also release some of the interlude here to generate interest in the new characters. Hopefully, this will hold people over, while I obsess over changes to book 2. 🙂

      Thanks for the inquiry!

      • Hey! Thank you for the reply’. I read it a while ago on my phone and before I was able to reply I got pulled into holiday madness. So I thought I would come back now that we are Finally leaving the holiday season in our rear view mirror. I would have asked an updated question but you have already given the answer and a even a book title. So January or at latest February is the release of your second book and it will be called “By The Blade”. Good luck and I hope you are able to enjoy the kind of problem every author wants to have. You are unable to write fast enough. 😀

  2. What will the title of your second book be called so i can keep an eye out ? Will it be available on audible as quick? I am will be traveling extensively in January and need a new book 🙂

  3. Its not often I am willing to pick up a new book from an unknown author as I work 100+ hours a week and hate getting lemons and badly told stories when I have so little free time, However in your case I’m glad I did, This was one of the best new books I have read in a long time and a new take on fantasy, Looking forward to book 2.

    • Thanks for giving my work a try with such a busy schedule! I’m working on the next book daily (an interlude introducing some new characters), and I hope you enjoy it as much as the first one.

      • If it’s anywhere near as good as the first I’m sure I will enjoy it, It has been a while since I’ve had a new series to pick up that I actually was eager for the next book, i enjoy the first one more each time i reread or relisten to it.

I hope you release it as an audio book as well so I can take it to work with me, The guy who recorded the first one did a great job and after reading the paper version really made the story pop for me.

    • Hi Brenda,

I’m still waiting on final edits and the book cover design. But it is “finished.” I forgot how long it takes to bring a finished manuscript through the process of getting released. But we are on the last leg of the journey! I’m sorry for the delay, but it should be here soon! 🙂

  4. Hi David. First book was great. I have one request though. Please do not sexually abuse the ladies. I hate it when the authors introduce rape scenes and all.

By the way are we going to have Elwin chapters in the 1.5th book or is this book going to introduce totally new charaters?

  5. Hi David,
When is the second book going to be published?
Are Elwin and Zarah going to be there in ‘by the blade’?
I liked the first book a lot. Please hurry.

    • Hi Mukesh,

I’m so glad you liked the first volume. By the Blade takes place during the time between Taming the Elements and Mastering the Elements. This “interlude” novel is about three different characters who will show up in Mastering the Elements. It does include a couple of tertiary characters from the first book, but no Zarah or Elwin.

BUT, I am working on the “final” draft of Mastering the Elements. It is still quite a ways out, but I am working as fast as I can. I hope to get By the Blade out this summer. The writing has been finished for some time. We are just waiting on cover art and final edits.

      David 🙂

  6. Hello Dr Ekrut,
I really enjoyed the first book. I’m an OTR truck driver, and a bit of an audible junkie. I see no one has asked the question for a while, but any ideas when the new books will hit the selves?

    • Hey Jared. Thanks for reading! I have plans to get the next book (By the Blade) out by December. At the moment, all appears to be on target. I’m working out details with Chris McD to voice this one as well. No date on this just yet, but soon after the print.

Mastering the Elements should be finished next year. I’ll give details as I have them!
